Pwned.
I was reading a forum earlier, and the two following comments stuck out at me. So I had to share them.
Person 1, Christian
Homosexuality is wrong and not because I said so, because it's Law and it's above your control or any Government. Do I hate Homosexuals... heck no they are just people, but what they promote and do is wrong. Gay pride parades are disgusting to me, the fact that they use the word "Pride" is even worse.
Roj, your lack of respect for anyone who happens to adhere to the rules of the Bible is quite disturbing to me. I voted Alliance in the past, therefore I'm a poor excuse for a Canadian? Lovely.... yet I would be a great Canadian if I voted for Liars, Thieves, Criminals and Immoral goons... also known as The Liberal Party? :hurt:
Fact: I'm not racist and do not hold any hatred against Homosexuals. If any forum member here is homosexual, I would treat them with the same respect. It is the act and the "pride" parades that I don't tolerate. Homosexuals need prayer, they are living in Sin and can change if they wanted to, and I'm not saying change as in magically become straight.
Yeah, yeah... I know Sin doesn't mean anything to you. This is where the conflict comes because some people here think Life is a free game to do what we please and not answer for our actions, we don't have any rules right? It's do whatever we please, we're Human we make the rules.. when we're dead we just turn to worm food and that's it since we certainly don't have a soul and we certainly won't be judged or go to heaven or hell right?
I love a world, where following the rules and promoting Christ gets you hated.

Person 2, Atheist
Disclaimer: The text below is written tongue in cheek; it's not meant to offend.
Religion is wrong and not because I said so, because it's just wrong and it's above your control or any Government. Do I hate religious people?... heck no they are just people, but what they promote and do is wrong. Religious propaganda is disgusting to me, the fact that they use the word "truth" is even worse.
The lack of respect for anyone who happens to disbelieve in the Truth of one particular religious text is quite disturbing to me.
Fact: I'm not racist and do not hold any hatred against religious people. If any forum member here is religious, I would treat them with the same respect. It is the act and the "bible-thumping" that I don't tolerate. Religious people need sympathy, they are living in a dreamworld and can change if they wanted to, and I'm not saying change as in magically become logical.
Yeah, yeah... I know science doesn't mean anything to you. This is where the conflict comes because some people here think Life is not for living, but only to serve a demanding deity, we can't just live for ourselves right? It's do whatever our bible tells us, we must follow two thousand year old texts .. our lives are lived only to be judged as to whether we go to heaven or hell right?
I love a world, where not following one particular religion gets you hated.

Nice.
Pwned, indeed.
Whoa.
hahahaha niiiiiiice.
the first argument made no sense, the second however... i wonder how that made him feel.
fuck yeah!
Hahaha this is wonderful.
I wrote a blog earlier about hypocritical Christians. I am a Christian, and from what I understand about my religion - we aren't supposed to judge. Especially if we don't fully understand what something is. Some say gays choose to be gay, but thats nuts. I am totally straight, there is no way I could choose to muff dive. There is no way. The desire to find a gender attractive is not something you can train yourself to do like, training yourself to be vegan. The problem is, people think they know all about what it means to be something, whether it's being gay, or being Christian.
@maniac_rose - Not to plug my site (though we are on it, aren't we) I just wrote a post on this the other day. I was a Christian, and I feel I understand Christian tenants better than most professing Christians. And I agree with you about it being impossible (or at least very difficult) to train yourself to find a gender attractive that you don't find attractive. Then again, I am a bisexual FTM and even I am not sure I would "muff dive", attracted to women and all.
Person #1 reminds me of a conversation my Jewnitarian brother had with is Christian friend in the second grade:
Friend: But you're committing a sin.
Brother: I don't believe in sin.
Friend: But it's a sin not to believe in sin!
@heterophobic_female_chauvinist - *grin*
I have to say that I do like your post. I fall under the first category. I don't hate homosexuals as people, I even have homosexual friends, but it's the act of the lifestyle they choose to live. Yes, Christians need to love all people, but that doesn't mean they can't stand up for something when it's wrong. You know people can believe whatever they want, that's their choice, but just because you believe something doesn't meant it's right. I mean many Christians believe that the purpose of sex is to reproduce within the bonds of marriage, something special to be shared between husband and wife. That is the natural way that God intended it to be as stated throughout the Bible. But even back then people abused this power to create and used it for their own lusts and pleasure which was defined as sin by God. The gay movement is nothing new, it's been around for centuries, even before the time of Christ. It was a sin back then and it still is today. Just because people don't believe in God or don't believe this lifestyle is a sin, doesn't mean they're right. I stick by my answer that it's just their way of justifying their behavior and the lifestyle they choose. If they can't control their passion, if they can't control what they do with their bodies then they are slaves to their physical selves, and can't overcome it either because they choose not to, or they're not strong enough because they don't have the spiritual help and guidance that comes from faith in God. I choose to be more positive; people are more capable of doing things than they think. It all comes down to the choices they make, the effort they put into it, and their emotional will and strength. If people like something enough they're not going to change just because it's right or wrong. No one can make them do it but themselves. It's just that everyone thinks of themselves first: I'm the victim, I'm the one that's right and you're all wrong, I should have the right to do this or that, etc. It's all about me, me, me and the heck with what anyone else thinks, I'm the one that's right. Jeez, it's no wonder the world is in such sad shape. No one has morals anymore (I'm generalizing here), it's do what you want, come as you are, let's get rid of God, we don't want Him telling us what to do anyway; let's just eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die and there is no God anymore. Yet when bad things happen He's the one they blame. But that's okay; all of this was prophesied of in the Bible. People just don't see themselves playing the parts that are fulfilling these prophecies. And it will only get worse. Watch and see if the physical disasters don't get worse every year. But people still won't care. Not until it's too late. Okay, I'll shut up now. But you're right, we all have the right to choose how we want to believe and live, but others also have that same right too. But at some point, there will be consequences for those who made the wrong choices. I'm shutting up.
@homemadehappiness - The "act of the lifestyle" we choose to live? You mean... gay... sex? Because, with the great deal of diversity in the queer community, I fail to understand what else you would be speaking of. What is the heterosexual "act of lifestyle"? I wasn't aware heterosexuals had one, but if gay people do than heterosexuals must as well, because we all aren't really all that different, save orientation.
Just because many Christians believe that the purpose of sex is to reproduce within the bonds of marriage and is something special to be shared between husband (singular) and wife (singular) does not mean that the Bible explicitly screams that interpretation. In fact, polygamy (many wives) and concubinage (a woman living with a man to whom she is not married) were regularly practiced in the Old Testament. Neither is ever condemned by the New Testament (with the questionable exceptions of I Timothy 3:2,12 and Titus 1:6) and Jesus' teaching about marital union in Mark 10:6-8 is no exception, since he quotes Gen. 2:24 as his authority (the man and the woman will become "one flesh"). This text, historically, was never understood in Israel as excluding polygamy. A man could become "one flesh" with more than one woman, through the act of sexual intercourse. We know from Jewish sources that polygamy continued to be practiced within Judaism for centuries following the New Testament period. So if the Bible allowed polygamy and concubinage, why don't we?
And that's just one example.
"If they can't control their passion, if they can't control what they do with their bodies then they are slaves to their physical selves, and can't overcome it either because they choose not to, or they're not strong enough because they don't have the spiritual help and guidance that comes from faith in God." I am not easily offended and this is offensive to me. As a transperson, I'm pretty sure whatever union I form with whatever gender is going to be seen as queer/gay. I am deeply spiritual and I think before I act in the vast majority of occasions that present themselves in my life. I've studied religion. I understand the tenants of Christianity. I'm offended you can chalk up my attraction to members of the "same-sex" as "uncontrolled passion" or because I am not "strong enough." It would be so much easier to just be straight in this society. But I really have no desire.
Lastly, I agree that people are more than capable of doing things than
they think and wish to do, and I believe in the personal potential of every person. I'm not sure who you think you're preaching to (the choir, maybe). I make my heart pretty apparent here. My beliefs, my religious background, my current aspirations, passions, values, etc. It's all here. Take a look around.
hahaha i love this post. i hope you don't mind if i take it and put it on my blog.
